... The Point and Sandwick Development Trust have been recently awarded the sum of £73,575 from the Climate Challenge Fund for the Beinn GhrÌdeag Community Wind Farm. The Beinn GhrÌdeag Project is to build the largest community-owned wind farm in Britain which will supply the domestic energy needs of 6000 households and save 13,600 tones of CO2 emissions a year. Over a period of twenty years the project will earn a net income of £20 million and will create a significant number of jobs in the area. Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead MSP said: "Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us today and the Scottish Government is committed to reducing emissions by 80% by 2050. The Point and Sandwick Development Trust have set a strong example to encourage and inspire others to take action and they should be proud of their achievements".
